Most delays I see in Grenada files have nothing to do with the government. They come from documents that were ordered too late, translated badly or legalised in the wrong way. So in this guide I go through the official process and then the paperwork, person by person, as of October 2026.

Step 1: choose an authorised agent

Nobody can file with the Citizenship by Investment Committee (CBIC) directly. You work with an authorised international marketing agent, who in turn works with an authorised local agent licensed by the Minister. You do not contact the local agent yourself. Before signing, check that your agent is authorised and ask who the local agent will be.

Step 2: prepare forms, medical and documents

You complete the official forms, attend a medical examination and collect supporting documents. Everything must be in English and properly legalised. If you choose real estate, the property is reserved with a sale and purchase agreement at this stage.

Step 3: submission and interview

The local agent submits the complete file to the Executive Office of the CBIC and from then on answers all queries. The interview is mandatory and, according to the IMA, held online as part of due diligence.

Step 4: due diligence and decision

The government runs a background check on every applicant and verifies what was submitted. The CBIC then makes a recommendation, and the Minister of Citizenship decides. The answer comes through the local agent: approved, delayed for further processing, or refused. The IMA says decisions are made within 60 business days of submission and that there is no paid fast track.

Step 5: payment, certificate and passport

After approval you receive a letter instructing you to pay the NTF contribution or complete the property purchase, into the escrow account of the local agent. Once payment is proved, the CBIC issues the certificate of registration, which makes you a citizen, and the local agent applies for the passport, which the IMA says is issued within days. BRIDGES plans 3 to 6 months from the start of document collection to the passport.

Who will be refused

The IMA lists the grounds clearly. An application is denied if the applicant:

  • gives false information;
  • was convicted anywhere of an offence that carries more than six months in prison in Grenada, unless pardoned;
  • is under criminal investigation;
  • is a potential security risk to Grenada or another country;
  • is involved in activity likely to bring Grenada into disrepute;
  • was refused a visa by a country with which Grenada has visa-free travel and has not obtained a visa there since.

The last point surprises people. If you were refused a UK or Schengen visa, tell me at the first meeting, because the plan has to deal with it before the file goes in. Citizens of Russia and Belarus have not been accepted since 31 March 2023 according to the IMA, and citizens of North Korea and Iran are also excluded.

The police certificate rule comes from the 2013 Act. The other items are the usual IMA and agent checklist; your agent may ask for more depending on your history.

Translation and legalisation

All documents must be in English. The IMA expects translations by a reputable agency, and BRIDGES recommends an apostille or consular legalisation on the originals before translation. Medical results and police certificates have short validity, so I order them last, roughly three months before submission. BRIDGES notes that medical results are usually accepted for about three months.

How I sequence the work

I start with the source of funds, because it takes longest and decides whether due diligence goes smoothly. Then come civil documents with apostilles, then translations, and only at the end the medical and police certificates. BRIDGES publishes a detailed checklist of documents for Grenada citizenship that follows the same order. For who can be added and how they pay, read the family guide, and for the budget see the cost guide.

Questions and answers

Can I apply for Grenada citizenship directly?

No. Applications are accepted only through an authorised international marketing agent working with an authorised local agent in Grenada. The local agent submits the file to the CBIC and handles all correspondence.

Is there an interview?

Yes. Since IMA Circular No. 9 of 2023 an interview is mandatory for the main applicant, the spouse, children aged 17 and over, dependent parents and any sponsor. The IMA says it is held online, and the fee is $1,000 per person.

How quickly is a decision made?

The IMA says applications are decided within 60 business days of submission, subject to due diligence and funds, and passports are issued within days. There is no expedited service. Preparing documents usually adds several weeks before submission.

Do I need to travel to Grenada?

No. According to the IMA, there is no need to visit Grenada before, during or after the application, and the interview is online.
